Keiko the Dachshund – San Diego Pet Photography

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2015

I shared a wonderful photo session with Keiko the dachshund recently! Keiko is one of the happiest & most easy-going dachshunds I’ve ever met, to be honest with you. He’s such a good boy! He’s very treat-motivated – I mean very – and can you believe that his favorite snacks are carrots & apples?! What a healthy pup! But he loved my studio treats too (which are admittedly less nutritious), and so I think he had a great time posing for all kinds of rewards!

I have to say, I really loved watching Keiko interact with his parents, especially his dad. They have such a wonderful bond – his dad taught him an adorable “down” trick that involves getting as low to the ground as possible – and since Keiko is a rescue, I think he knows just how lucky he is to be a part of such a loving family. :)

Here he is! Sure, there’s a bit of white on his face, but that doesn’t slow Keiko down!

He was more than happy to pose for us in front of Coronado’s most beautiful landscaping & greenery…

Photos of Daisy, the San Diego Boxer

Wednesday, May 20th, 2015

One day I received a call from someone looking for a great Mother’s Day gift – something to celebrate her mom’s relationship with her 4-legged daughter! I was happy to oblige, and that’s how I met Daisy and her mom!

Daisy is an 8-year-old San Diego boxer, and a total sweetheart, who lives with her mom in Point Loma. She enjoys spending her time in her amazing house, which is full of favorite spots to lounge around in/on: her crate, her bed in the living room, the bed in the spare bedroom, her mom’s bed, the front patio, the backyard… so we spent a relaxing afternoon lounging around in all of the different locations!

I have to admit, I loved seeing the relationship that Daisy shares with her mom. These two are incredibly close; Daisy was always keeping an eye on her mom no matter how many treats I had in my hand! And when I first arrived, Daisy put on a pretty intimidating “guard dog” display of barking & growling – but the second her mom said “it’s ok Daisy!”, she completely relaxed. Some of my favorite images from our photo session feature both ladies together, but for this sneak peek, I’ll just focus on the star of the photo session! :)

Oh, that sweet face, and those big eyes… Daisy, you’re such a beautiful pup.

Daisy gave me the impression of being a very wise dog…

Photos of Albert, the San Diego Scottie Dog!

Saturday, May 2nd, 2015

I had the privilege of meeting Albert just a couple of days after his mom contacted me… right now, my schedule is fully booked about 6 weeks out, so meeting a dog so quickly after their parents fill out the contact form on my website is definitely a rarity! But I’m always able to make time in my schedule to accommodate dogs that find themselves in Albert’s situation. You see, he just received a diagnosis from the vet that’s left his whole family in shock… the cancer that he’s already beaten twice is back for a third round. And this time, an operation wouldn’t be successful – so Albert’s parents are treating him to a fun & blissful few weeks before they have to say goodbye.

Gosh, I’m about to start crying as I write this blog post! Instead of dwelling on the unfortunate current state of circumstances, I have to tell you what a great dog Albert is! This San Diego Scottie dog loves his family so much – he always wants to be with them, and he kept a close eye on what his mom was up to at all times during our session. This lucky dog gets four walks a day – that’s right, four! (Don’t tell my Bailey, haha, she’ll be jealous!) And his parents bring a bright red wagon along for him, in which to cruise back home, just in case he gets tired along the walk. He loves visiting his grandma’s house in Bay Park (in fact, his grandma used to be his owner, several years ago!) and he really enjoys the view of San Diego from her hilltop house. And really, I don’t blame him – the view is amazing! Albert is definitely a dog that knows how to relax in style. :)

We started our session in the studio! Don’t you think the speckled white fur around his eyes makes him adorably unique?

As it turns out, Albert only has three legs – so it was pretty cute to see his one back leg flop down from this ledge as he laid there, relaxing!

And we wandered around his grandma’s neighborhood in the soft evening light, too… as much as I love all the color in this image, I can’t stop looking at those sweet eyes!

Aprell & Donald, thank you for introducing me to your handsome boy! I can’t wait to show you the rest of our photos soon! :)

Mindy, the Yorkie from La Mesa

Friday, April 10th, 2015

I am so pleased to introduce you to this distinguished little lady, Mindy! She’s a lovely little Yorkie who lives in La Mesa with her mom Andrea, and together, they share an incredibly close relationship. You see, Mindy has an incredible past: she’s the dog that Andrea picked out for her parents to own, in addition to the Yorkie that her mother picked out. So Mindy and her sister lived out in the country together… until the heartbreaking day when a coyote ended Mindy’s sister’s life. They were only 9 months old at the time… I can’t imagine the fear that Mindy must have felt once she realized her sister was gone. But don’t worry: despite the rough start, Mindy’s story has a happy ending: she eventually came to live with Andrea, instead of out in the country with Andrea’s parents, and these two ladies have happily spent their lives together ever since! They’re so incredibly bonded; it was truly beautiful to see how much these two mean to each other. To have the privilege of photographing their relationship and documenting that bond they share… well, I couldn’t ask for anything more! And although Mindy is less mobile/active than most of the dogs I work with (she turns 15 next week!), that meant we got to share a wonderfully relaxed photo session – and I’m loving our images! :)

This is Miss Mindy! Her favorite thing to do is roll around the nearby senior retirement center. From her perch in her stroller, she can see everything, and everyone can see her, too – she gets ooh-ed and aah-ed over on a regular basis!

Andrea, thank you for introducing me to your adorable little girl. (And thanks, Sally & Linda, for introducing us!) I’m excited to see you again soon!

Rita, the San Diego Mixed Breed Dog

Tuesday, February 17th, 2015

If you were to ask me which breeds make up Rita’s heritage, I would be at a total loss to answer your question. I mean, honestly – it’s anyone’s guess! She’s a gorgeous dog, with the biggest & sweetest eyes, and she could be anything from boxer to lab to pit bull to terrier to shepherd to hound… it’s a mystery! What we do know is that she was rescued out of Rosarito, Mexico by Baja Animal Sanctuary about fourteen years ago. Since then, she’s lived with her mom, Laura, in San Diego, “happily ever after”… these two are super-close and I loved photographing their relationship. Truthfully, I think some of the images I captured of both of them together are my favorites from the whole session… but I know that my human subjects like to “approve” their photos before I post them online, so this sneak peek will be all about Rita!

Rita is extremely shy – you may not be able to tell from these photos, but she really is. She typically sticks to her mom like velcro, but we made friends during our Pre-Session Consultation… and then she warmed up to the camera even more with a few treats as persuasion! :)

After a few indoor photos, we ventured outside to Rita’s “yard” – a.k.a. UCSD’s campus! She & her parents live there, since her dad works for the university, and her walks include smelling & rolling around in the grassy quads.

Did I mention that Rita is a total sucker for treats? ;)

Laura & Dave, I had a great time with you & Rita during our session! I can’t wait to show you the rest of our photos soon!
