Poodle Puppy Barkley at the Park

Wednesday, May 9th, 2012

Barkley is his name, although these days his mom prefers to call him “Badness”. He’s a bundle of fluffy energy, and SUCH a cutie! I was thrilled to get together with Deb (Barkley’s mom) again! She’s already enjoyed a session in the past, but sadly lost her old boy Sprockett several months later. So now she has Barkley, and all his puppy characteristics are keeping her more than busy these days!

Barkley was happy to run after me, but never ventured too far from Deb…

He played with my tennis ball that was half the size of his head…

And we went for a walk in the woods. It’s a big world out there, Barkley, but I know you’re ready to take it on!

Deb, I can’t wait to see you and Barkley (and Lola!) again soon! I hope you had fun at our session!

Sneak Peek: Shelby & Gunther ~ Navarre Pet Photography by Allison Shamrell

Monday, January 30th, 2012

This fun session was a first for me in several ways, besides being the first on my calendar for 2012: it was the first time I’d seen a fountain of everlasting energy from something other than a labrador. It was the first time we visited my new favorite location – and I can’t disclose where it is! For clients’ eyes only, haha! But most surprisingly, this was the first time that the family added a new member in-between their pre-session consultation and the actual session! That’s right, the number of animals in this household increased by one over the past week, and they kept it under wraps from me until I arrived to see a tiny black cat in mom Jessica’s arms! Needless to say, it was a wonderful surprise! We were laughing about how Jessica has rescued almost all their pets, and she just “can’t say no” to a dog or cat who needs rescuing. And although it may make for a hectic household, I’m pretty sure the world is a better place for Jessica’s being in it.

So I’m going to do something a bit different with this Sneak Peek. As regular blog followers know, I usually post 3-4 photos of the subject(s) in question. But since this family has twice that many pets, how about one photo per animal? Sound fair? I think so.

We’ll start with the dogs: this is Shelby, the world’s most active 1-year-old standard poodle. She also emanates beauty; I think she’s a contender for most gorgeous dog EVER.

This is Gunter, Jessica’s little sweetheart.

This is Sushi, an old cat that Jessica has owned since her college days. Sushi wasn’t really in the mood to be photographed but I think we got a few cute ones!

These next two are Siamese cats, Simba & Sheba! Stunning creatures – I don’t know if I’ve ever met a Siamese before so it was a real treat to meet two! (“We are Siamese if you please…”) Simba is the one sitting up, and Sheba is the one whose nose I just had to get a close-up of, because it reminds me of a LION!

The Most Photogenic Cat Award goes to Otis. He made himself quite at home on the dining room table.

And last but not least, this is the newest addition, Ruby! She actually only has three legs – her from left one is missing – but she was in such a playful mood it couldn’t have mattered less. Here she is sandwiched between a chair back and its cushion, trying to get at me and my camera.

Jessica and Jon, I hope you had a great time on Saturday! Your photogenic animals have given me plenty of work in the meantime. See you soon!

Sneak Peek: Roscoe, Buddy & Dixie ~ {Gulf Breeze Pet Photography by Allison Shamrell}

Saturday, December 3rd, 2011

I met Roscoe, Buddy & Dixie at their beautiful home in Gulf Breeze. Their Mom Dawn filled out my online contact form, and in the text box that says “Describe your pet in three words” She wrote “geriatric, something, and young”. I thought to myself, hmmm. Then I saw what she filled out as her dogs’ breeds: “oodles”. So – and please forgive me, Dawn – I thought you were just a bit heavy with the typos. I mean, there’s no such thing as an oodle and geriatric is the opposite of young… Right? And how the heck could “prime” fit into that??

So I laughed pretty hard when Dawn informed me over the phone that she has a standard poodle, a labradoodle, and a schnoodle – hence, “oodles”. And she used one word for each dog, since the oldest is 12 years old and the youngest is only 7 months! Take a look at Roscoe, Buddy and Dixie!

Dixie is a big, happy girl, and has tons of energy.

Don’t let the distinguished touch of gray confuse you: Buddy is 5 years old and Dixie’s outlet for most of that energy…

Roscoe is the old gentleman at 12 years of age. I love the paw he offered me! So polite.

Dawn warned me that they all love to sprint around the backyard for hours on end. She wasn’t kidding.

Thank you so much for introducing me to your furkids, Dawn! I can’t wait to show you all the poses they struck for me!

Razzie & Cherry ~ {Pensacola Pet Photography by Allison Shamrell}

Friday, December 2nd, 2011

Razzie and Cherry are two miniature black poodles that live in Fort Walton Beach. They came to Pensacola for their session, and I’m so glad they did – we visited several of my favorite scenic locations!

At first, I met them both and wondered, how on earth am I going to tell them apart? Well it turns out, as the day went on it became starkly obvious who was who. Razzie (4 years old) is taller, leaner, and has a cute little underbite. Cherry (2 years old) is shorter and has a rounder face. See if you can tell them apart by the end of this blog post!

Both girls loved running around the beach! This is Cherry sprinting in front of the waves…

We also went to the park…

We also went to the studio!

We may have traded treats for cooperation.

Thanks for introducing me to your beautiful girls, Christel! I’ll see you soon!

Sneak Peek: Lola & Sprockett ~ {Milton, FL Pet Photography by Allison Shamrell}

Wednesday, June 8th, 2011

Lola and Sprockett are two completely opposite dogs. Let’s start with the basics: Lola is a girl (the cocker spaniel), and Sprockett is a boy. Lola is a cute mix of black & white, and Sprockett is totally stark white. But while Sprockett is a happy, outgoing dog, Lola has a troubled past (she might be from a puppy mill) and doesn’t ever wants to be without her mother, Deb. She’s a fearful dog, and never seems to be quite at ease when anyone besides Deb is around. It’s a sad thing to witness, and a testament to the horrible truth of puppy mills and dog abuse. It’s a good thing Lola has found such a loving home with Deb!

I still managed to get a few smiles out of both Lola and Sprockett during our session at the Milton dog beach! How could a day at the park not cheer anyone up? Here’s the Sneak Peek of these cuties.

Here’s Lola!

The always-outgoing Sprockett…

Plus, they came straight from the groomers to our session – and what would a grooming be without a little pizzazz?

Thanks again for a great afternoon, Deb! Talk to you soon!
