The Dogs of Pensacola’s Davis Animal Hospital

Saturday, August 25th, 2012

In the calm before the storm (Hurricane Isaac), I was able to get together with April and her four pooches – and as it turns out, the weather & light were absolutely beautiful for our session! April is the owner of Davis Animal Hospital, a great new vet clinic in Pensacola, and a few photos of these dogs will be decorating the exam rooms very soon! I think that’s a pretty awesome perk of owning your own animal hospital; seeing your own dogs’ happy faces on the walls each day.

In focus on the left is Grace, a 3-legged pit bull mix who loves hunting squirrels and racing around with her brothers+sister – can you believe she’s the fastest one of them all? Missing a leg has NOT slowed her down! On the right is Molly, who became my new best friend when she discovered I brought treats to the session. She even tried to hop in my car and come home with me!

These are Captain Morgan Sr. and Captain Morgan Jr.! The older one is ten years old, and goes by Morgan, while the younger one is ten months old and his nickname is Captain. They’re biologically father+son! And they love to play with their tennis ball.

Golden retrievers lay and play in the grass.

I’m sooooo excited about the photos from this session – I probably won’t be able to resist posting a few to the Facebook page! One is already up, of Captain fetching the morning paper… it’s pretty cute thanks to Captain’s awesome trick. All these dogs are so good-looking!

Thanks for reading!  :)

Premium Albums: The Photo Cover

Tuesday, March 27th, 2012

Okay, I’m going to run the risk of sounding really repetitive over the next few posts. Let’s just get out there what I’m feeling:

I am so excited about this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay. It may be hard to believe, but that obnoxious amount of exclamation points was actually necessary. Because this is something that I’ve been planning, researching, preparing and waiting for, for about six months. I’m introducing a new product line, and as the title of this blog post says, it’s a line of premium albums.

I already offer coffee table books – and they’re great! But many clients have asked me for more options. I wanted to continue offering all the features my clients love in their coffee table books – lay flat pages, clean design, great presentation – and still add so much more. This is a HUGE step up, in both quality and price, and it’s absolutely perfect for those clients who really want to feature their dogs’ portraits in an incredibly special way.

This post features a premium album with full-bleed photos on the front and back covers. I actually have three providers for the different types of premium albums I offer, not just one, because I felt that once my clients decide to make such a fabulous purchase, they ought to be able to choose between the best album providers in the photography industry. As far as showcasing a photo on the front cover, this lab absolutely excelled in every possible category, so I’m thrilled to offer their albums to my clients! (Remember: this is only the first of three album types. The others will be featured in their very own blog posts, because I don’t play favorites, even with inanimate objects. I’ll post links to those posts here as soon as they exist.)

Okay – let’s get started!!

The photo-cover premium album comes with its very own custom photo box! Here’s its front and spine:

I chose to put only the dog’s name on the spine of the box, for simplicity’s sake. Kai is a sweetheart of a pit bull, and she and her mom live in New Orleans – they came all the way to Pensacola for their session, and we had a fantastic time together!

The box opens from the side…

It has a beautiful sheer cloth insert to protect the book…

And here’s the book itself, sitting on top of its box…

And finally, just the book.

Ready to see inside? Me too!

Here’s an example of a spread.

The gutter normally found in big books is almost entirely nonexistent. This full-spread design was specifically made up of darker colors, so that you can see the most dramatic effect a white seam could have. I think it’s pretty remarkably small! I honestly don’t think it detracts from the photo much at all, so that’s one feature I love about these books.

My past clients love how their coffee table books can lay completely flat, without anyone having to hold down any pages (like you would with a magazine). This book lays flat like a pro.

Let’s take a closer look at those pages…

The pages are thick; they have a substrate inside them that provides support and stability. Trust me, you’ll never rip one of these pages. And in the photo to the left of the collage below, you get to see a bit of how the cover is slightly padded with more substrate. To be honest, I feel bad for you: this book feels incredible and I wish you could just run your hands over it. The cover has an incredible matte finish and the slight plush cushion underneath the printed material is just… well, you have to feel it to believe it.

Here’s another look at the cover.

I even found a small place for my logo!

Well, there you have it, the first of three incredible premium albums. I’ll be bringing these only sparingly to events; they’ll mostly be reserved for the eyes of clients  in their ordering sessions. So to see them all… just book a session! :) haha!

I hope you enjoyed looking through this book! I can’t wait to show you the accompanying two albums; stay tuned!

Christmas Pet Portraits! ~ {Pensacola and Ft. Walton Beach Pet Photography by Allison Shamrell}

Friday, December 23rd, 2011

With Christmas coming up so soon, I thought you might like to see the results of the Christmas Sessions from earlier this month! I set up my studio in The Spotted Dog and 3 Dogs & A Chick, and a bunch of families came in to have their Christmas portraits taken. It was a lot of fun, and a bit chaotic – let’s just say I’m glad I splurged on the “shatter-resistant” ornaments!

Here’s a fun video I put together featuring many of the attendees we had – and I kept it to just photos of the dogs, even though we had plenty more portraits of everyone’s whole family! Enjoy!

Gulf Breeze Pet Fest ~ {Gulf Breeze Pet Photography by Allison Shamrell}

Sunday, November 20th, 2011

Yesterday (Saturday) was the 2011 Gulf Breeze Pet Fest! It was a lot of fun – until Mother Nature decided she didn’t like the idea of peaceful weather. So up until that moment (when three 10×10′ tents went flying, and my portraits came crashing down from their display stands) everyone was having a great time! Check out some of the adorable dogs I got to meet before having to pack up my booth…

This sweetheart wanted to snuggle up next to her Dad the whole time!

Rayne was a wonderful familiar face to see!

Bailey was the only one in her family who felt like saying hello to me…

But doesn’t her sibling Jace have the most beautiful coloring?

Tally the lab – I love her eyes!

I also adore this pomeranian’s coloring.

This is Treu, the smallest pit bull I’ve ever seen! Definitely a sweetheart, and tennis ball-obsessed!

Haha – I’m pretty sure this is Treu’s “look how good I am beeeeiiiinnnggggg” face!

Some visitors decided they needed to see my work up close…

Aaaand we have the winner for cutest pup of the day!

Honestly? I would like to steal him.

Gumbo the Maltese is a close runner-up, though. Wrapped up against mom’s chest was the warmest place to be that day!

This is Sydney, the windswept Australian Terrier!

Some dogs were there to PLAY! This is Buster, the shorthaired pointer.

Such sweet eyes.

And since the last session giveaway I did was so fabulous, I decided to hold another drawing for a free session.

This is the winner! Meet Amore the Maltese, and you’ll be seeing more of this adorable pup soon!

I’ll leave you with one more of this little dude. Have a great week!

One More of Kai ~ {Pensacola Pet Photography by Allison Shamrell}

Friday, September 16th, 2011

I was just working through a few more images from my session with Kai, and found this one.

To tell you the truth, I change opinions on what’s my “favorite photo” every day. But I think this one might stay at the top of the list for a little longer than usual.
