Emily, the World’s Tiniest Pomeranian! (Photos)

Okay, Emily might not be the tiniest Pomeranian in the world. I haven’t done all the necessary research, I admit it. (Although I would like to, haha!) But I think it’s a pretty good guess, since she weighs a whopping 2.5 pounds! Holding this little lady in your arms is like holding a feather… but for everything she lacks in size, she more than makes up for in sweetness. Emily is patient, calm, loving, and simply a dream to work with. I love the way she looks up at her mom… you can practically see the devotion in her eyes. And rightfully so: her mom saved her from a puppy mill. Emily had a rough beginning, that’s for sure – no attention and no love for the first couple years of her life. (I cannot imagine… ugh.) So her mom is making up for lost time, and showering Emily with plenty of care these days! Especially since older age (Emily is 9 now) has come with new health challenges, and her mom doesn’t have much longer with her sweet rescued pup. I’m sad for the short amount of time they have left together… thinking about it puts tears in my eyes… but at the same time, I know Emily & her mom have shared so much joy. So they’ll continue to do what they do best (travel the country, go beading, and love each other) and I have no doubt that it’s the life both of them would have chosen a thousand times over!

That’s Emily the Pomeranian – and yes, she’s wearing a dress! It cover up her hair loss from her recent medical issues quite nicely, and Emily loves her (huge!) collection of dresses to choose from!

Stop it. She’s too cute.

How could you ever say no to those big eyes?!

San Diego Vizslas: Sundance, Russ & Cisco! (Photos)

If you’re not familiar with the Vizsla breed, let me be the first to tell you: choosing to own a Vizsla is less a breed choice and more of a lifestyle choice. Imagine you have a roommate with BOUNDLESS energy, who wants to eat, play and hunt small animals all day long. Every day. Forever. And if that doesn’t sound exhausting, imagine you have THREE of these roommates! Haha – you’ve just imagined the household of Sundance, Russ & Cisco!

These three San Diego vizslas are gorgeous bundles of energy with an awe-inspiring zest for life. I absolutely loved watching them sprint around the park & beach we visited for our photo session; you can see that these athletes were born to run and hunt. And it made the session a lot of fun for me, too – since I love capturing dogs in action! So these handsome boys kept me on my toes all afternoon, and we had a great time as they ran around to their hearts’ content. The weather was perfect, and I’m so grateful since we’ve had more than our fair share of scheduling challenges – fingers crossed we’re finally done with these last couple of rainy months! Plus, less rain = safer beach water to play in, and I have a feeling these pups are ready to get back to the beach already! :)

This is Russ, the “adopted” brother and 100%-certified treat-monger. He tried to make me believe that he needed ALL the jerky treats. Nice try, Russ!

This happy boy is Cisco! The smallest of the pack, Cisco has excellent recall and it was awesome to watch him tear off in one direction, only to come sprinting back as soon as his mom called his name!

And last but certainly not least, this handsome gentleman is Sundance. I just love his fur’s coloring against the blues of the ocean!

Believe it or not, we actually ended up with a few group photos of all three dogs! It was a rare moment to catch them all in the same spot – but aren’t they a gorgeous group?!

More Photos of Annabelle the Cavachon!

To make a long story short, Annabelle’s mom and I have had to postpone our Ordering Session by a few weeks. This is a big bummer, because the “grand reveal” of all the images happens at that appointment! (My past clients know what I’m talking about – that appointment is half the fun of the entire photo session experience!) I’m sad that we have to wait longer than we expected due to these unforeseen circumstances… so I decided to make a second “sneak peek” for Annabelle’s mom! I just hope this makes the delay a little more bearable! :)

Annabelle is such an adorable Cavachon – I love seeing her all stretched out, doing her best to earn a(nother) treat!

This photo makes me burst out laughing! Annabelle, how could you turn your back on me?? ;)

I can’t wait to show Annabelle’s mom all the action photos from the beach. Annabelle is so quick!

Photos of Candice the English Bulldog around San Diego!

Can I be totally honest? I really love working with athletic, strong, active dogs. Photographing a dog as he or she runs, jumps, swims, and does anything active is SO much fun for me. (Probably because I started my photography career shooting sports!) And even though English bulldogs don’t run, jump or swim, for some reason I inexplicably have just as much fun with their photo sessions as I would with the most athletic dog out there! There’s just something about the way they look at you, with their smushy faces, long wet tongues and sweet droopy eyes that makes you think to yourself, these pups must be the comedians of the dog world. And indeed, Candice the English bulldog had us laughing for her entire session! She would happily walk (and sometimes trot) from place to place, grinning up at us as she munched on treats & Doritos. (yes, Doritos!) And it occurred to me: I think I like to photograph active dogs being active because it’s what they do best. When dogs are in their element, in their happy place, that’s what I want to capture. So whether it’s a labrador running through the surf, a chihuahua nestled in her mother’s arms, or an English bulldog chowing down on a snack intended for humans, I guess I realized that they all spread joy in their unique ways. And letting a dog be who he or she is, naturally – that’s what’s so much fun to capture!

So as you can imagine, I had a phenomenal photo session with Candice the English bulldog! We started in the studio, but since her parents have moved around the country quite a bit due to her dad’s service in the Coast Guard, we found some quintessentially “San Diego” backdrops as well… and it was simply perfect, until the marine layer came in & thwarted some of our plans! So we had to rearrange our schedules to get together again soon to finish the rest of our session, which was a bummer in the moment… but secretly I’m kinda thrilled that I get to sneak in some extra Candice time! :)

Finally, we stopped at the Coast Guard station for a few extra-special exclusive photos! Candice helps her dad keep watch sometimes, so she showed me around the hangar with all the confidence of an admiral. It was so funny to see!

Brandis & Brandon – I had a great time with both of you! I’m looking forward to “take two” next week! :)

Annabelle the Adorable San Diego Cavachon! (Photos)

I’m so excited to introduce you to Annabelle, the sweet little Cavachon, who has a love of cheese & a penchant for cute tricks! :)

Have you ever seen a dog that’s so excited to get a treat that they’ll immediately do their best tricks, without you even asking for them? Perhaps the dog sits, offers you a paw, immediately lies down & rolls over… it’s so cute to see them thinking one step ahead, doing whatever they can to earn that treat in your hand! And Annabelle is simply a pro at this game. When she sees you have a treat – ideally it’s cheddar cheese! yum! – she’ll run over to you and promptly sit up! And no, I don’t mean on her rear end; she sits UP on her hind legs, straightening her whole body as tall as she can be, with her front paws up in the air for you! It’s SO cute to see! I swear, she could run away with the circus and fit right in… :)

But luckily Annabelle is not a traveling circus dog, she’s an adorable part of a local family and I got to meet her in the studio for our photo session. She showed me her trademark trick (several times, haha!) and we were able to work quickly since her mom taught her such great obedience skills. Then we had enough time to head out to La Jolla for a few portraits on the beach – and that’s when Annabelle really let loose! Haha! I know her mom is excited to see her action photos – and she’s going to have a LOT to choose from, I know that for sure!

This sweet little Cavachon (Cavalier King Charles spaniel & Bichon Frise) is Annabelle. Her coloring is so unique!

She was sooooo excited to show me her “sit pretty” pose! (Or maybe she was just excited for the cheesy reward…)

That soft, smooth, fluffy fur started to look a little different at the beach, haha! Annabelle had a great time running around, exploring, and playing fetch.
