Happy Bailey! ~ {Pensacola Beach, Florida Pet Photography Allison Shamrell}

Monday, October 18th, 2010

I’m usually a stickler for technical quality in a photo. I’m talking about proper framing, appropriate depth of field, that sort of thing. But when it comes to a photo with this much raw emotion in it, I know all the other things I usually worry about pretty much go out the window. So while this isn’t what I would call a great photo, how can you not be a little bit happier than you were a minute ago when you see a dog this thrilled to be at the beach?

This is Bailey, a one-year-old Rhodesian Ridgeback mix. We got her from the Jr. Humane Society, and I think this photo is proof that shelter dogs know what hard times are, and appreciate you and your family more than you know. Plus, her huge smile really gives Seuss the Dalmatian (see earlier post) a run for his money!  I hope this photo brightens your day.

Now if only I can get her to stop digging in our new backyard…

Charlee & Toby ~ {Pensacola, Florida Pet Photography Allison Shamrell}

Thursday, October 14th, 2010

I just spent some time tonight with the wonderful owners of these two hilarious dogs, and we had a great time picking out which photos they’re going to order! Charlee is the dapple dachshund, and Toby is the playful mix- they make a funny pair together! Check out these photos from our romp in the yard!

Amber- LOVE the bedspread!  Thanks again for letting me use it!

The Stephens’ Baby Shower ~ {Pensacola, Florida Photography by Allison Shamrell}

Monday, October 11th, 2010

Actually, it was less of a baby shower than it was a really fun party! Couples were invited, drinks were served, and the weather was perfect!  Here’s a sneak peek of the work I did in-between loads of moving to a new house:

Apparently, not everyone had a good time… but little Aidan still looks cute when he scowls! Congratulations, Lina & Kevin- I can’t wait to meet Kevin Jr.!

Suess & Nika ~ {Pensacola, Florida Pet Photographer Allison Shamrell}

Wednesday, October 6th, 2010

Here are a bunch of photos from my shoot with the super-active Seuss and Nika on Sunday! You can tell they truly love each other; Nika is a pit bull puppy and while she was constantly exploring, she never strayed too far from Seuss the Dalmation- and he definitely watches out for her!

Here are just a few of the pictures- enjoy! And thanks for a great time, Whitney and Morgan!

The Bayview Dog Beach’s New Fire Hydrant ~ {Pensacola Pet Photography by Allison Shamrell}

Monday, October 4th, 2010

If your dog is anything like my dog, he or she wants nothing more than to go to the dog beach. Every single day. We can’t say the words “dog beach” without whining and complaining from Bailey. It’s basically heaven on earth for most dogs.

But a few weeks ago, a disaster struck the dog beach- literally. Lightning hit the massive tree in the middle of the sandy grounds, and split it right down the middle. Branches went flying all across the beach. The City of Pensacola soon came and cleaned up the debris, but that left all us dog beach-goers staring at an ugly, unnatural, chopped-off tree stump.

Enter the Chainsaw Artist. You may have seen his work off Highway 98 in Navarre, on the north side of the road. Next time you drive that way, look for the wooden bears and totem poles- that’s his home and workshop! He was kind enough to donate his services to our tree stump, and over the course of three days, he and his assistant slowly and masterfully turned it into a fire hydrant! A very fitting sculpture for a place with a canine population, don’t you think? This process involved a chainsaw at first, but they used several other key tools to get it looking so realistic- for example, a sander that went through quite a few sheets of tough, sandpapery material.

Here are just a few of the photos; for a more detailed look at the entire transformation, check out the display at the Bayview Dog Beach! (It’ll be there in a couple of days.) And when you get there, enjoy the beautiful artwork- even if your dog chooses to pee on it!
