The Biggest & Smallest Dogs: Honey & Capone

Wednesday, May 15th, 2013

I’m pretty sure these dogs are, respectively, the biggest & smallest pups that I’ve ever worked with: Capone tips the scales at 140 lbs and Honey weighs in at a mere 6! So, naturally, they’re brother & sister! :)

Capone is the big guy, just two years old but definitely beyond the norm in size. Sometimes I think his limbs are so long, he doesn’t have complete control of them – this guy is a goofball! He really kept us laughing with hilarious looks on his face and clumsy antics. I’m sure his parents get a heck of a show at home all the time!

Honey is a 7-year-old poodle/shih tzu mix. (The photo I posted to the Facebook page also evidences her third breed.) While her parents kept trying to tell me that she a can be a total handful, and that she’s lost her welcome to friends’ houses, and how she rarely (if ever) behaves how they want, and that she has NO obedience… I couldn’t help it. I fell in LOVE! Would you just LOOK at that cute face!!

I may steal her during our Ordering Session. No promises.

Here’s the big man – Capone!

Isn’t he handsome?

One more of Capone, just because I love his ears in this photo. They’re like tents!

Kayla & Jason (& Lori), thank you so much for a great session! I had a great time with you all, and I can’t wait to show you the photos! :)

Have you Ever Seen a Blue Chihuahua?

Wednesday, April 3rd, 2013

Photographing rare breeds of dogs is so much fun for me – I love trying new things, and in a way, working with an uncommon breed of dog is a whole new experience. I get to learn their temperament, tendencies, and quirks that are totally unique to that breed. So while this session wasn’t with a new breed, per se, it was definitely a rare sub-category of that breed! You may have heard of blue Weimaraners or blue heelers; I am proud to introduce you to Crescent, a blue chihuahua!

Isn’t she adorable? She’s built like any other chihuahua, but her fur is completely unique!

For the confused: no, she isn’t actually bright blue. If you’re looking for really blue dogs, this will be your best bet.

And let’s not forget Crescent’s sister, Crickett! (She’s definitely the outgoing one between them!)

I love working with dogs that have completely different personalities. Crickett, in a totally puppy-like way, was running around the park, chasing sticks, sniffing & exploring everywhere. Crescent, on the other hand, was rarely found more than five feet from her mom. Each dog was her own challenge – for Crescent, getting photos with only her in the frame and not mom too; and Crickett, gaining her attention & focus for more than two seconds at a time!

Aren’t they an adorable pair?

Thanks for a lovely afternoon in the park, you two! See you soon!  :)

Dog Photography: Two Senior Dachshunds, Daphne & Agnes

Sunday, March 3rd, 2013

I have the pleasure of introducing you to the cutest, littlest grey-faced dogs I’ve met in a long time! This is Agnes and Daphne, and I’m honored that they (and their mom) came all the way from Panama City to have their session! They kept us laughing throughout their session – and whether it was Agnes’ little bow-legs or Daphne’s desire – no, NEED – to investigate the intriguing back room of my studio… I just adore these dogs.

This is Agnes! She was adopted not too long ago, and her mom adjusted her given name from Aggie (couldn’t have that, as an Alabama fan!) to Agnes.

And this is Daphne, who holds a very special place in her mom’s heart – and on her foot! How cool is her tattooed paw print?!

They make an adorable pair, don’t you think?

And finally, an early favorite of mine after giving all the photos a once-over. What lovely emotion in this photo. Session with dogs (especially doxies!) don’t always go as planned… especially when we visit public parks with squirrels and all sorts of interesting distractions… so it’s a good thing my clients are great at rolling with the punches!

Thanks for an absolutely fabulous afternoon, Stacy! Can’t wait to see you all again (very) soon!

Cute Pug Photography: Mr. Big!

Thursday, January 31st, 2013

You read the title right – this dog’s name is Mr. Big! I dare you to say his name without adding an exclamation mark as you say it – even if you just think it in your head! How cute is he?!

This was a truly delightful session – we started at Mr. Big’s condo on Pensacola Beach, headed up to Plaza Ferdinand for a few park photos, and then finished up at my studio! He was a great little subject, and veryveryvery treat-motivated. And as Mr. Big (!) slowly started to have less focus and energy, we decided that he was probably tuckered out and ready for a post-session nap… Sure enough, his mom texted me less than 5 minutes after driving away – he fell asleep in the car on the way home! Ha!

Enjoy these photos of the handsome little man – and yes, the constant state of hanging-out-tongue is totally normal!  :)

I love this photo so much, I posted it to the Facebook page, too!

Thanks again for a wonderful session, Mr. Big!  Laurie & Jeff, it was absolutely wonderful to photograph your 4-legged son. Can’t wait to see all three of you again soon!

Blade the Happy Rottweiler

Tuesday, December 4th, 2012

This session came about because of the Pensacola Fur Ball, an event to which I’m happy to donate my time every year. It’s how I met River the rescued dog last year – and this year I was lucky enough to meet Blade!

Blade is a big, cheerful rottweiler, and I have a soft spot for rotties, so I was extra excited for our session! He’s one of the most even-keeled dogs I’ve ever met; I don’t know what could change his happy, eager-to-please attitude. It seemed like every time I turned around, he had the same handsome smile on his face! I was pretty surprised once we brought the frisbee out, though: this lumbering giant of a dog suddenly had some get-up-and-go! He sped after that disc like a train… pretty impressive if you ask me.

Check out this handsome boy!

He adores his parents and they adore him… It’s a pretty great thing to witness.

That’s it for now, but I’ll see you all again soon! Thanks for a wonderful afternoon session, Laura & Stephanie, and thanks for supporting the Fur Ball’s mission!
