Dog Photography: Outside, Inside, Outside, Inside

Wednesday, September 12th, 2012

That’s exactly how this session went! We started outside in the backyard, headed inside to relax on the couch, then went back outside to play fetch, then back inside to take a nap on the bed… and it was so much fun! Honestly, I really appreciate it when my clients choose my Dalmatian Package, because it means absolutely nothing will be rushed. Everyone (you, me, and your dogs) can all relax and take our time getting a huge variety of photos! So it was a very stress-free afternoon at Harley, Buster, and Lily Rose’s house. Let me introduce you to the stars of the show!

Harley is a big yet timid boxer, whose greatest fear was that I’d steal his soul with my camera. Yes really. Despite my efforts, I think he kept it. Lily Rose is the darling girl on the right, a delightful mix of Boston terrier, pit bull and who knows what else? She is such a little sweetheart!

Buster, the “big man” of the house, is an English bulldog with the BEST head tilt.

And I wanted to share one more photo, only because Lily Rose struck this pose on her own, and made her mom Marcia and I laugh so hard! Don’t you love her dainty toes sticking out over the bed frame?

To say that this was a fun session doesn’t even begin to cover it. Thanks again Marcia – I can’t wait to see you & your crew again soon!

A Birthday Present for Myself!

Monday, September 3rd, 2012

Woohoo! Today is my birthday!  :)

And I have a present I’d like to give myself. It’s a pretty simple one, but I need the help of someone in the Pensacola area: I want to photograph a Bernese mountain dog. Yes, that’s the gift I want! I’ve photographed dozens of different dog breeds (and sometimes I think I could only photograph golden retrievers and still stay in business…) but I’m fascinated with meeting new breeds, and I’ve always secretly wanted to work with a Bernese mountain dog. They’re at the top of my “wish list”! They’re beautiful, relatively uncommon, and they just seem like really great dogs.

Here’s a screen shot of Wikipedia’s Bernese mountain dog entry… isn’t that a gorgeous dog?

So if someone you know has a Bernese mountain dog, please pass on my information or this blog post! I’m happy to cover their session fee – so really, I suppose it’s a gift for both of us!

Bonus points if you have a PUPPY! My Google image search revealed all kinds of cuteness.

Okay, that’s it for today! Hope you’re having a wonderful Labor Day too! :)

Premium Album Sample: Marcel the Poodle

Thursday, July 26th, 2012

I wanted to feature another premium album here on the blog, because since the last time I featured a premium album, THREE more clients’ albums have come and gone! Without me taking ANY photos of them! I’m sad I didn’t get the chance to photograph those, but honestly, if I can receive the album, do a full quality check, and deliver it to my client all in the same day, I will! I’m not going to delay delivering their album just so I can take a few photos. So that’s what’s happened a few times now, but this time, I finally had a bit of time after receiving this one to show off its features!

This is the silk-cover album, which comes in my favorite carrying case: a padded leather box with velvet interior lining.

I literally gasped when I first saw this silk shantung cover. The red is STUNNING.

The pages are quite thick – they’d be impossible to accidentally tear.

There’s always the option to place a photo as a cover inset, and it’s something for which I don’t charge extra – the look of the album with or without the cover photo can be gorgeous either way. But in this case, I love the family photo my clients chose for their cover! I think it starts off the album really well.

Full-spread photos are my favorite. :)

Choosing the quotes for premium albums can be almost as challenging as selecting the images! I love this quote by John Grogan.

I looooooove my premium albums – and if you’re one of my clients with your own album, you know exactly why they’re so wonderful! Thanks for reading! :)

Bulldogs and boxers and shih tzus – oh my!

Monday, July 9th, 2012

I first met one of these dogs (Mr. Chubbs, in fact) during Mini-Sessions at 3 Dogs & A Chick – see his ridiculously happy, smiling face here on Facebook! So I was absolutely thrilled when his parents, Ashlee & Joseph, invited me back to their house to meet the rest of their pack! As soon as I walked in the door, all SIX dogs converged on me, and it kind of made me feel like I was the victim of a relentless, multi-tier assault. With super-adorable assailants, of course! Let me introduce you to them!

Maggie (left) is actually just as cheerful as Cleatus (right), but she wanted to show off her serious side.

Tink is the eldest of the family at 11, and this shih tzu gets to come to work with Mom & Dad every day at one of the veterinary clinics they own! Lucky dog!

Romy isn’t exactly an “outside dog” but we eventually got her to brave the elements (of the gorgeous sunny day), and she really lit up when the toy pig got involved!

I am so taken aback by how beautiful Desi is that I can’t post just one photo. Look at this sweet, pretty girl!

And last but certainly not least, Mr. Chubbs, enjoying a blissful solo escape to the front yard.

Thank you so much for such a wonderful afternoon, Ashlee & Joseph! I have MANY more photos to show you, including all the ones we took inside the house! I can’t wait – so I’ll see you soon! :)

The Park and the Beach with a Husky Puppy and Boxer/Basset Hound Mix

Monday, April 9th, 2012

I first met Angus (the 4-year-old boxer/basset hound mix) and Denali (the husky puppy) at 3 Dogs & A Chick‘s Easter Egg Hunt just two weeks ago. I pretty much melted when I first saw Denali; I think she’s strikingly beautiful! Those markings – those eyes!! I absolutely couldn’t wait to photograph her, and as it turns out, once I started shooting, Angus was even more of a delight to work with! His soulful, hound face had us laughing the entire session.

Here’s the Sneak Peek of your images, Chae & Jarred! I’ll be in touch soon to figure out when we can get together again. Enjoy!
