Small Dog Meetup Group! ~ {Pensacola Pet Photography by Allison Shamrell}

Monday, May 2nd, 2011

Last weekend, I had the pleasure of going to Pensacola’s Small Dog Meetup Group! It was a round-up of some seriously adorable little dogs.

It’s always fun to introduce my business and myself to people I’ve never met before. When I say I’m a full-time pet photographer, I usually see a mixture of surprise and disbelief on people’s faces. I hear things like, “No way! I didn’t know you existed!”

That’s what I love about my niche of photography. I’ve never met someone who said, “Oh, your job sounds boring and terrible.” People do tell me that my job is difficult, all the time; I suppose some of them are getting fed up with blurry photos on their cell phones that they’ve tried to take on their own, or maybe their dogs are scared of cameras – which is difficult to deal with.

Then again, dog owners have (at least) one great advantage that I’ll never have as a professional photographer. They get to be around their dogs all day, every day! The sessions I spend with dogs and their owners are tons of fun, and we create memories that will last for years, but I’m just not there for the normal, everyday stuff that makes you laugh and remember how much you really, really love your dog. I can’t be there to take the photo at 7:15 when you’re leaving for work and your dog is just peeking out from beneath the covers, saying goodbye in his own way. I’m not there when you get back home after grocery shopping, and even though you’ve only been gone for half an hour, your dog is jumping and panting and tail-wagging like mad because he’s so happy to see you again! Unfortunately, I miss out on all that. (But then again, don’t feel too bad for me – I get it from my Bailey!)

So that’s why I really like events like this Small Dog Meetup Group. It’s a normal part of these dogs’ lives, and I get to hang out in the background and take a few photos. Nothing is staged, I’m never asking a dog to please stay there for one more second – it’s all natural. And beautiful. So thank you, owners of Pensacola’s Small Dog group, for letting me photograph your fun last Saturday morning.

This guy preferred to stay near his dad for most of the meetup… just a little shy!

Look at that FACE!

Tobey & Jack ~ {Pensacola, FL Pet Photography by Allison Shamrell}

Friday, April 15th, 2011

These dogs are just funny – and I think they know it!

Tobey is the dachshund, and Jack is the peigle (that’s a shar-pei/beagle mix). Tobey tends to run in circles when he gets excited – and I think he loved seeing all his photos, since he practically wore a circle-shaped hole in the ground during our ordering session! It’s hilarious to see him get so worked up (especially at the dog next door – you’ll see his rapt attention at the backyard fence in the slideshow!) and Jack just sits. And watches. And probably thinks to himself, “Here we go again.”

Enjoy your video, Jack and Tobey! Try not to get too excited.

Thanks for such a fun session, Chad and Michelle! I can’t wait to see the products you ordered!

Saber, Tayte and Zara ~ {Fort Walton Beach, Florida Pet Photography by Allison Shamrell}

Wednesday, April 13th, 2011

Let me tell you what, these dogs have the life. In fact, I think the phrase “you lucky dog” was coined years ago so that it could one day be said to THESE dogs!

Saber, Tayte and Zara live with their mom, Nicole, who owns and operates the fabulous 3 Dogs & A Chick, a dog specialty store in Fort Walton Beach that’s known all over the Florida Panhandle for its incredible supply of fun, healthy goodies for dogs and their people! This means these dogs pretty much get their pick of healthy food options, organic treats of all kinds, adorable collars and leashes, and bunches of interesting toys!

And if that weren’t drool-worthy enough, they live on a gorgeous acre of land that they share with Nicole’s horse, Chick! So they spend their days running around in the grass, barking at the garbage truck on the street, and hanging out with another (much bigger!) 4-legged friend.

If I were a dog, I’d be pretty jealous.

Anyways, here’s a Sneak Peek from our session on Monday! Saber is the old guy with plenty of gray, Tayte is the big girl that has the same pretty brindle coloring as Saber, and Zara is the younger girl with white markings.

Check out the dirt on Tayte’s tongue – gross! She doesn’t seem to mind though!

Enjoy these photos – Nicole, I’ll be in touch soon!

Sneak Peek: Domino & Gumbo ~ {Pensacola Beach, FL Pet Photography by Allison Shamrell}

Tuesday, April 5th, 2011

Here is the Sneak Peek from a fun session with Kimberly and her Boston Terrier mix Domino, as well as Sally and her shih tzu Gumbo! As usual, these are just a few photos from what I’ve edited so far… but they’re definitely some of my favorites!

Let me tell you what – the weather really did its best to keep us from having a session! We had to reschedule to get away from a dark, cloudy sky, and then the wind practically pushed us off the beach once we finally got out there! But Kimberly and Sally were troopers, and Domino and Gumbo were up for anything! We had a great time and I’m VERY excited to reveal all the images.

Enjoy your Sneak Peek, Kimberly and Sally – I’ll be in touch soon!

Moose ~ {Cantonment, FL Pet Photographer Allison Shamrell}

Monday, March 28th, 2011

There are some sessions that are just plain FUN for everyone involved. This one really sticks out in my mind as the best example of that! That look you see on Moose’s face in most of these pictures is him thinking, “Hey guys! This is fun! What do you want to do next! I love you by the way!” Seriously, I’m pretty sure that’s his constant interior thought process. And it’s adorable!
Moose is a loving dog that wants nothing more than to spend time with his parents. His parents love him to pieces. I loved seeing them all interact together. Are you feeling the love yet? I hope you enjoy these images as much as Moose’s parents do!

A few of my favorite shots…

I honestly can’t pick my favorite. Don’t make me.

…. What’s that I smell? A new sample canvas? Hmm, maybe! :)
