Happy Halloween – I mean, Howl-o-ween!

Thursday, November 1st, 2012

Did you have a good Halloween? I hope so!

I wanted to share a few photos of Bailey’s Halloween costume with you, because the Lord knows I spend way more time on her getup every year than mine! If you’re a fan of the Facebook page, you’ve probably already seen these pictures. But they deserve their own blog post!

We decided (okay, I decided) to dress Bailey up as a lion this year because she’s mostly Rhodesian ridgeback. She’s a mixed breed and we’re not sure what else she has in her, but she’s the spitting image of a Rhodesian. So we did a bit of research on this breed, and it turns out they’re a type of dog bred in Africa for the purpose of hunting lions. Lions! How cool is that?! So Bailey’s costume harkens back to her ancestors. These photos were taken amidst the African savanna’s tall grasses and wide open plains; isn’t it obvious? Haha! Enjoy!

hee hee… I’m pretty sure I have WAY too much fun with my dog…

I’d like to think she’s sniffing out her next prey here.

Was Bailey a willing model? No, not really. Lesson learned: she prefers the costumes that are more shirt-like and cover her back, instead of the ones she has to wear on her head. Sigh. Still, it was a lot of fun for me! For Bailey, one day of misery a year isn’t too bad… right?

Niceville Pet Photography: Memphis, Gracie & Chloe

Tuesday, October 2nd, 2012

You know how this summer was pretty rainy? Like, rainier than most summers? Yeah, I do too, and so does Meredith. She’s Memphis, Gracie & Chloe’s mom, and we’ve been planning this session since JUNE! The absolutely ridiculous weather forced us to keep rescheduling until now, so first of all, Meredith should be commended for having the patience of a saint. But I already knew she’d be patient – she’s a first grade teacher! I was so excited to finally meet Meredith and her dogs in person; I felt like we were friends already from all the times we’d communicated back and forth! And our session was SO much fun with her three fur-babies; let me introduce you!

This is Chloe, a five-year-old pug. She loooooved being the center of attention! (what a cutie, right?)

A pug sits at a woman's feet on a dock.

Oh, Chloe’s face. Don’t you just want to give her everything she could ever want? Sigh. On the right is Memphis, a ten-year-old pug. I love that crazy running look that pugs get! I posted another (slightly calmer) photo of him to the Facebook page on Saturday.

A pug looks up at the camera and one runs through green grass.

Memphis’ little paws…

A close-up zoomed in on pugs' feet on a wooden dock.

And here’s big sis Gracie! She’s a boxer mix (I’m guessing with some pit bull, too) and she’s also five years old.

Dogs on a dock and looking out a car window.

Two pugs sit on a concrete bench, with water in the background.

Gracie has a bit of trust issues, so I saw both of these faces pretty often throughout the session… ha!

A boxer - pit bull mixx smiles and barks at the camera.

Gracie can MOVE!

That’s it for now… probably one of the biggest Sneak Peeks I’ve ever posted, since I’m going on out of town for a bit. Meredith, thank you again for being so wonderful to work with – and please say hi to the pups for me! I’ve got SO many more photos to show you (remember Chloe on the blue+green comforter?) so remember to watch the Facebook page for updates! :)

Dog Photography: Outside, Inside, Outside, Inside

Wednesday, September 12th, 2012

That’s exactly how this session went! We started outside in the backyard, headed inside to relax on the couch, then went back outside to play fetch, then back inside to take a nap on the bed… and it was so much fun! Honestly, I really appreciate it when my clients choose my Dalmatian Package, because it means absolutely nothing will be rushed. Everyone (you, me, and your dogs) can all relax and take our time getting a huge variety of photos! So it was a very stress-free afternoon at Harley, Buster, and Lily Rose’s house. Let me introduce you to the stars of the show!

Harley is a big yet timid boxer, whose greatest fear was that I’d steal his soul with my camera. Yes really. Despite my efforts, I think he kept it. Lily Rose is the darling girl on the right, a delightful mix of Boston terrier, pit bull and who knows what else? She is such a little sweetheart!

Buster, the “big man” of the house, is an English bulldog with the BEST head tilt.

And I wanted to share one more photo, only because Lily Rose struck this pose on her own, and made her mom Marcia and I laugh so hard! Don’t you love her dainty toes sticking out over the bed frame?

To say that this was a fun session doesn’t even begin to cover it. Thanks again Marcia – I can’t wait to see you & your crew again soon!

Dog Days of Summer 2012 – the First Annual Event!

Thursday, August 30th, 2012

When I was first asked to be on the planning committee for Dog Days of Summer, I had NO IDEA what a huge event and ridiculous amount of fun it would turn out to be! (Plus, all the planning meetings at La Hacienda Mexican restaurant were pretty delicious/wonderful too.) We designed the day to be similar to the Gulf Breeze Pet Fest or Pensacola’s huge Barktoberfest, but with one big difference: all proceeds would benefit the American Cancer Society. Human & canine cancer is so prevalent and any donation we could make would be worth the effort – so after several months of planning, August 18 was the big day! And guess what: the results are in, and we raised over $1000 for the American Cancer Society! YAY!

This post is full of just a few dogs from that day who stopped by to say hello! These photos will also be used to make a 2013 calendar, the proceeds from which will also benefit the American Cancer Society. (If you keep scrolling down, you’ll see some of the funny themes and props we put together for each month!) Stay tuned to the blog and the Facebook page for more info on how to get your copy!

Let’s start with a photo of the head organizer’s dog! This is Rusty, Becky’s boy, and he’s only about a year old – but I photographed him when he was a tiny puppy! It was so much fun to see him “all grown up” and much bigger than I remember!

This is cute little Dixie the basset hound!

Serious contender for cutest puppy at the event: Fiona the shepherd mix. I think she looks a bit like my Bailey! And WHAT a smile!

Rocky is another one of the organizer’s dogs – you really should check out Premier Pet Grooming if you’re in Milton!

Here are two Boston terriers, Odie & Charley. Adorable!

Conway is a chug (chihuahua/pug mix), don’t you love that underbite? And Sonny the lab mix will help us introduce the many props and costumes for each month…

Happy Cinco de Mayo! Ha!

Whew, there are a TON of photos in this post! But if you can’t get enough, check out the full day’s gallery here: http://proofs.allisonshamrell.com. More importantly, a HUGE thank-you goes out to everyone that came on the 18th, whether it was for several hours or just a short time! We really appreciate your support, and 100% of your donation went to the American Cancer Society! Thank you so much – and be on the lookout for more info about next year’s event!

Bulldogs and boxers and shih tzus – oh my!

Monday, July 9th, 2012

I first met one of these dogs (Mr. Chubbs, in fact) during Mini-Sessions at 3 Dogs & A Chick – see his ridiculously happy, smiling face here on Facebook! So I was absolutely thrilled when his parents, Ashlee & Joseph, invited me back to their house to meet the rest of their pack! As soon as I walked in the door, all SIX dogs converged on me, and it kind of made me feel like I was the victim of a relentless, multi-tier assault. With super-adorable assailants, of course! Let me introduce you to them!

Maggie (left) is actually just as cheerful as Cleatus (right), but she wanted to show off her serious side.

Two English bulldogs look up at the camera.

Tink is the eldest of the family at 11, and this shih tzu gets to come to work with Mom & Dad every day at one of the veterinary clinics they own! Lucky dog!

Romy isn’t exactly an “outside dog” but we eventually got her to brave the elements (of the gorgeous sunny day), and she really lit up when the toy pig got involved!

An English bulldog plays with her owner with a squeaky toy.

I am so taken aback by how beautiful Desi is that I can’t post just one photo. Look at this sweet, pretty girl!

And last but certainly not least, Mr. Chubbs, enjoying a blissful solo escape to the front yard.

Thank you so much for such a wonderful afternoon, Ashlee & Joseph! I have MANY more photos to show you, including all the ones we took inside the house! I can’t wait – so I’ll see you soon! :)
