Have you Ever Seen a Blue Chihuahua?

Wednesday, April 3rd, 2013

Photographing rare breeds of dogs is so much fun for me – I love trying new things, and in a way, working with an uncommon breed of dog is a whole new experience. I get to learn their temperament, tendencies, and quirks that are totally unique to that breed. So while this session wasn’t with a new breed, per se, it was definitely a rare sub-category of that breed! You may have heard of blue Weimaraners or blue heelers; I am proud to introduce you to Crescent, a blue chihuahua!

Isn’t she adorable? She’s built like any other chihuahua, but her fur is completely unique!

For the confused: no, she isn’t actually bright blue. If you’re looking for really blue dogs, this will be your best bet.

And let’s not forget Crescent’s sister, Crickett! (She’s definitely the outgoing one between them!)

I love working with dogs that have completely different personalities. Crickett, in a totally puppy-like way, was running around the park, chasing sticks, sniffing & exploring everywhere. Crescent, on the other hand, was rarely found more than five feet from her mom. Each dog was her own challenge – for Crescent, getting photos with only her in the frame and not mom too; and Crickett, gaining her attention & focus for more than two seconds at a time!

Aren’t they an adorable pair?

Thanks for a lovely afternoon in the park, you two! See you soon!  :)

Dog Photography: Two Senior Dachshunds, Daphne & Agnes

Sunday, March 3rd, 2013

I have the pleasure of introducing you to the cutest, littlest grey-faced dogs I’ve met in a long time! This is Agnes and Daphne, and I’m honored that they (and their mom) came all the way from Panama City to have their session! They kept us laughing throughout their session – and whether it was Agnes’ little bow-legs or Daphne’s desire – no, NEED – to investigate the intriguing back room of my studio… I just adore these dogs.

This is Agnes! She was adopted not too long ago, and her mom adjusted her given name from Aggie (couldn’t have that, as an Alabama fan!) to Agnes.

And this is Daphne, who holds a very special place in her mom’s heart – and on her foot! How cool is her tattooed paw print?!

They make an adorable pair, don’t you think?

And finally, an early favorite of mine after giving all the photos a once-over. What lovely emotion in this photo. Session with dogs (especially doxies!) don’t always go as planned… especially when we visit public parks with squirrels and all sorts of interesting distractions… so it’s a good thing my clients are great at rolling with the punches!

Thanks for an absolutely fabulous afternoon, Stacy! Can’t wait to see you all again (very) soon!

Rescued Dogs from Afghanistan

Friday, December 14th, 2012

The dogs in these photos have a long & fascinating story, and it’s simply too much for me to tell in one little Sneak Peek post! Rest assured, I’ll spill all the details soon enough. But for now, I’m going to whet your appetite with one simple fact: the white dogs in these photos were rescued from Afghanistan. I’m so honored to know these pups and their awesome parents; I’ll write a longer blog post all about them next month, after my little Christmas vacation and after their parents have had a chance to see ALL the photos from our session. But I’m very excited to introduce you to Siena, Olive, and their American-grown brother Gabe! :)

This is Olive, an Afghan puppy that I met a few months ago – I think she was half the size she is now! She’s always on the go and super-curious about pretty much everything.

Sometimes she tires herself out and crashes on the couch… for about five whole minutes.

This is Siena, Olive’s biological mother. She’s very sweet, and much more calm than her daughter! Look at those EYES!

Last but certainly not least, this is Gabe! You could say he was their ambassador to American living, haha… they all get along great!

That’s it for now… I can’t wait to share more of their photos with you! Especially after our trip to the beach! :) Thanks for reading!

Dogs Relaxing in the Front Yard

Wednesday, November 14th, 2012

It was a long time coming that I finally got to meet these three dogs! Their mom, Sally, first scheduled a session with me months ago for her daughter’s dogs, Bally and Cuda. We’ve been meaning to get back together ever since so that I could meet her dogs, but you know how life tends to get in the way… I’m so glad we finally set a date and got together this past weekend – her dogs were an absolute pleasure to work with! They were incredibly well-behaved, and as Sally says, they’re just a great group together. She considers yourself lucky to have such a great pack – and I consider myself lucky for having met them!

First, let me introduce you to Rocky the schnauzer and Chloe the mixed breed dog. Rocky’s the oldest of the group, but you wouldn’t know it from how playful he is! And Chloe – can you say gorgeous? She’s such a good-looking mutt!

And this is Sasha, a regal mix of a dog. She’s a little more content to relax and take in the action.

A big puffy white dog smiles for the camera.

After we got a few “posed “portraits out-of-the-way, we just played with my ball in the front yard – it was a great afternoon!

Oh, and I can’t forget Madison! She’s another one of Sally’s grand–dogs, and we figured that since we were (as it turns out) crashing Madison’s well-kept yard for our photos, it was only fair to let her jump in for a few as well! Isn’t she a beautiful girl?

Sally, I had a wonderful time with you and your family, as usual. I can’t wait to get together again soon!

Daisy the Super-Athletic, Pool-Jumping, Ball-Obsessed Lab Mix

Wednesday, November 7th, 2012

You want to talk about FUN sessions? I spent over 30 minutes just watching (& shooting) as Daisy the lab mix jumped into her backyard pool over and over and over again… what a blast!! Maybe I’m the only person who gets excited about this kind of a session, but it hearkens back to my sports photography past, and I had a ball (pun intended)!

Daisy Mae is a ridiculously athletic labrador/beagle mix, with maybe some pit bull in her as well. Whatever breeds make up Daisy, they all must have some sort of championship bloodlines, because this girl can MOVE! We absolutely couldn’t tire her out by the pool, and when we went inside it was pretty clear she just wanted to go out again and swim some more! I hope you enjoy this Sneak Peek – and remember to watch the Facebook page for more photos of this ball-obsessed girl! :)

Last but not least… I just love this photo! We were playing with her ball in the side yard, and at one point my life practically flashed before my eyes when Daisy came up to give me her ball. Is this image technically perfect? No. Is it in focus in all the right places? Nope! But Daisy loves nothing more than playing with her ball, and that look in her eyes when she drops it at your feet is so adorable – and I think there’s a lot of unbridled joy in this image.

Steve & Jill, have fun on your cruise! And rest assured: I’ll have a LOT of photos for you to see once you’re back in town!
