Beach Dog Photography: Schnoodles!

Monday, May 13th, 2013

I had an absolutely PERFECT early-morning session withe these two standard schnoodles, Tux & Lily! This session was a long time in the making, but ended up being completely worth the wait! These dogs are both six years old, and they actually share a biological mother, which I think is pretty darn cool. It was a lot of fun getting to know them & their parents, and I just have a feeling their gallery is going to be extra-big! :)

Lily is on the left, and Tux on the right. It’s almost hard to believe they’re the same breed of dog – they look entirely different! Their fur is really distinguishing: Tux’s is short & in tight curls, but Lily’s is much longer & smoother. We started our session with a bit of playtime in their backyard:

Soon we headed out into the open ocean! (kind of.) They love boat trips! (And I do too – clients that bring me on their boat get extra brownie points for sure, haha!)

These dogs can paddleboard!! Tux enjoys it a bit more than Lily… personally, I’m impressed that their dad can handle both of them on one board! We also took a few family photos…

… between crazy spurts of energy! There was a LOT of running & playing with these two!

Lisa & Bill, I had an absolutely wonderful morning with you! Thank you so much for the boat ride and your flexibility in planning around the weather. Can’t wait to see you all again soon!

A Birthday Present for Myself!

Monday, September 3rd, 2012

Woohoo! Today is my birthday!  :)

And I have a present I’d like to give myself. It’s a pretty simple one, but I need the help of someone in the Pensacola area: I want to photograph a Bernese mountain dog. Yes, that’s the gift I want! I’ve photographed dozens of different dog breeds (and sometimes I think I could only photograph golden retrievers and still stay in business…) but I’m fascinated with meeting new breeds, and I’ve always secretly wanted to work with a Bernese mountain dog. They’re at the top of my “wish list”! They’re beautiful, relatively uncommon, and they just seem like really great dogs.

Here’s a screen shot of Wikipedia’s Bernese mountain dog entry… isn’t that a gorgeous dog?

So if someone you know has a Bernese mountain dog, please pass on my information or this blog post! I’m happy to cover their session fee – so really, I suppose it’s a gift for both of us!

Bonus points if you have a PUPPY! My Google image search revealed all kinds of cuteness.

Okay, that’s it for today! Hope you’re having a wonderful Labor Day too! :)

Bella the Affenpinscher Mix, at Home

Monday, April 30th, 2012

You think your dog’s ball-obsessed? Think again. Bella pretty much owns that title. She’s a three-year-old affenpinscher mix, lives in Gulf Breeze, and will probably never have enough of those colorful miniature squeaky tennis balls. We played at her house for a while the other night, and I think she always kept an eye on her prized possessions throughout our session. What’s the only thing that can come between Bella and her balls? Her mom, of course! I loved watching Bella and her mother Kaye play together – it’s so clear how much they mean to each other!

Without further ado… here’s Bella!

We played at Bella’s front door for a while… I took these images a split second before Bella dashed outside to be with mom again!

Oh that face.

Kaye and Sarah, I hope you enjoy this Sneak Peek! I can’t wait to see you and Bella again soon!

Schanuzers in the Backyard

Wednesday, April 25th, 2012

Repeat clients have got to be one of the greatest joys of this business. I SO look forward to sessions with people and dogs that I maybe haven’t seen in a few months, but already know! They typically have me smiling with anticipation as I pull up to their driveway… and this was one of those sessions! (it also helps when those repeat clients are hilarious, wonderful women that I get along with fabulously… just sayin’.)

Anyways, long-time blog followers might remember these schnauzers! They’re Jolie, Beau & Bella, and I love that each of their names mean “beautiful” or “handsome” in a different language…

Bella loves to get attention, so she’s happiest in her parents’ arms… and Beau, well, he seriously has it out for this toy.

Jolie looks so beautiful standing in the sunlight! (oh yes, it was a bit windy out.)

The pool is a constant obstacle for these poor dogs.

This was such a fun session and all of us were spent the entire time laughing… I hope to share more photos with you soon! Thanks for stopping by!

Sneak Peek: Roscoe, Buddy & Dixie ~ {Gulf Breeze Pet Photography by Allison Shamrell}

Saturday, December 3rd, 2011

I met Roscoe, Buddy & Dixie at their beautiful home in Gulf Breeze. Their Mom Dawn filled out my online contact form, and in the text box that says “Describe your pet in three words” She wrote “geriatric, something, and young”. I thought to myself, hmmm. Then I saw what she filled out as her dogs’ breeds: “oodles”. So – and please forgive me, Dawn – I thought you were just a bit heavy with the typos. I mean, there’s no such thing as an oodle and geriatric is the opposite of young… Right? And how the heck could “prime” fit into that??

So I laughed pretty hard when Dawn informed me over the phone that she has a standard poodle, a labradoodle, and a schnoodle – hence, “oodles”. And she used one word for each dog, since the oldest is 12 years old and the youngest is only 7 months! Take a look at Roscoe, Buddy and Dixie!

Dixie is a big, happy girl, and has tons of energy.

Don’t let the distinguished touch of gray confuse you: Buddy is 5 years old and Dixie’s outlet for most of that energy…

Roscoe is the old gentleman at 12 years of age. I love the paw he offered me! So polite.

Dawn warned me that they all love to sprint around the backyard for hours on end. She wasn’t kidding.

Thank you so much for introducing me to your furkids, Dawn! I can’t wait to show you all the poses they struck for me!
