A Couple of Handsome Blockheads

Saturday, November 10th, 2012

You know I say that with nothing but affection, right? I love dogs with big, solid heads – because look how big their smiles can get! :)

These boxers are named Molson (fawn & white) & Vaughn (brindle) and without a doubt, they are the most well-behaved boys I’ve worked with in over a year. No joke, no exaggeration – I think their parents should start a training business because they clearly do it very well! And I was thrilled about the dogs’ excellent recall, because it allowed us to get pretty creative! Here’s their Sneak Peek…

Aren’t they handsome?!

We took a walk through downtown Pensacola…

And dug halfway to China on the beach!

Last but not least, my personal favorite!! I love this photo so much!

Thanks for a wonderful session, April & Bobby! And I can’t thank Molson & Vaughn enough for being good listeners… their session is proof: great obedience helps me get great photos! :)

German Shepherd Dog & Puppy Photography

Friday, November 9th, 2012

Confession: I think German shepherds are beauuuutiful! I really do – they’re so so handsome but yet fluffy and lovable, and we think Bailey might be part shepherd (in addition to Rhodesian ridgeback, of course), so they rank in my top few favorite breeds. So when the winner of the session I gave away at Barktoberfest turned out to have a German shepherd, I was excited – but not as excited as when I learned that they were about to get another German shepherd, and a puppy at that!! It was so funny: I called Mary to let her know that she’d won the drawing and congratulate her, and she was literally in the car with her husband, on the way to pick up little Leah! Both Leah and her older sister Frannie are from The German Shepherd Rescue of Tulsa, so it was no quick drive – but of course, Frannie & Leah were each well worth the trip!

Mary & I actually spoke several weeks ago, but we decided to let Leah get acclimated to life with Frannie & their parents before plunging her into a photo session. Really, we probably could have gotten together weeks sooner: Leah is a totally confident puppy and was happy to play in the park with us! Frannie is definitely more skittish; she has a rocky past and her parents are doing a great job of socializing her and helping her gain more confidence. But I’ve been typing (and you’ve been reading) long enough – on to the Sneak Peek photos!

Thanks for a great session, Frannie & Leah!

Dog Days of Summer 2013 calendars are here! Buy one to benefit the American Cancer Society for only $20.

Thursday, November 8th, 2012

I am thrilled to announce the final design & official sale of the 2013 Dog Days of Summer calendar! We’re selling these great sturdy calendars for only $20 each, and 100% of the proceeds go to (who else?) the American Cancer Society! Check out the fun photos!

One of my favorite parts of these calendars are the photos on individual days of each month. If you attended the Dog Days event and your dog wasn’t chosen by our judges as one of the month “headliners”, don’t worry – your dog still made it in the calendar! Every one of the attendees was given their own day, if they didn’t already have their own month!

There are two ways you can order your calendar:

  1. Go to the office of the American Cancer Society in Pensacola and pick it up right then & there. It’s right by Cordova Mall; click here for a map.
  2. Email me: allison@allisonshamrell.com
Please consider making this calendar your Christmas gift to family and friends (and yourself!) – it’s all for a great cause. And why wouldn’t you want to see these cute dogs all year long? :)

Daisy the Super-Athletic, Pool-Jumping, Ball-Obsessed Lab Mix

Wednesday, November 7th, 2012

You want to talk about FUN sessions? I spent over 30 minutes just watching (& shooting) as Daisy the lab mix jumped into her backyard pool over and over and over again… what a blast!! Maybe I’m the only person who gets excited about this kind of a session, but it hearkens back to my sports photography past, and I had a ball (pun intended)!

Daisy Mae is a ridiculously athletic labrador/beagle mix, with maybe some pit bull in her as well. Whatever breeds make up Daisy, they all must have some sort of championship bloodlines, because this girl can MOVE! We absolutely couldn’t tire her out by the pool, and when we went inside it was pretty clear she just wanted to go out again and swim some more! I hope you enjoy this Sneak Peek – and remember to watch the Facebook page for more photos of this ball-obsessed girl! :)

Last but not least… I just love this photo! We were playing with her ball in the side yard, and at one point my life practically flashed before my eyes when Daisy came up to give me her ball. Is this image technically perfect? No. Is it in focus in all the right places? Nope! But Daisy loves nothing more than playing with her ball, and that look in her eyes when she drops it at your feet is so adorable – and I think there’s a lot of unbridled joy in this image.

Steve & Jill, have fun on your cruise! And rest assured: I’ll have a LOT of photos for you to see once you’re back in town!

Miniature Pinschers with Attitude

Monday, November 5th, 2012

I can hardly think of a more FUN way of spending a Sunday morning than playing at the beach (and the park, and the studio) with a couple of min pins! They are such a fun breed and each one I’ve met has such a distinct personality! So I was absolutely thrilled when Ashley called me about Daisy and Harley, her and her mom’s min pins.

Daisy (the red-colored one) is 100% independent: she does what she feels like, and treats can only sometimes convince her otherwise! She was all about exploring our different locations – and barking at the ocean for the audacity it had to keep making waves. Harley, on the other hand, is a little more laid-back. Don’t get me wrong – he’s Daisy’s littler partner in crime! – but he was much more content to stick by his mom throughout most of the session, and little more willing to pose for treats. Together, they were a LOT of fun to work with, and I really loved our session! Here is their Sneak Peek of images:

Harley can levitate? Maybe! Haha, he’s a pretty fast runner for a little guy!

It’s official: I love min pin butts.

Last but not least we stopped by the studio… and tried out my fun new backdrop! What do you think? I love how Daisy looks against it!

See you soon, pups! :)
