San Diego Pets Buster, Fae, Leyland & Nyx

Wednesday, April 8th, 2015

I’m so excited to share this family’s photos with you – because I’ve been waiting so long to do it! You see, this family’s session began one day… and continued on another day… and finished up several days later! Usually sessions happen all in one afternoon: we go from one location to the next with (usually) no issues. But, if you can believe it, bad weather forced us to reschedule so many times I lost count. (Of course, here in San Diego, “bad weather” means “cloudy” – but when you’re going to the beach, too many clouds can make or break the scenery! Have you ever been to the beach on a gray, overcast day? It’s nothing like a pretty, sunny, blue-skies day – and that’s why we weren’t going to settle for anything less!)

So this family gets huge kudos in my book, for being willing to wait until the weather cooperated with us (and my picky tendencies). I think they’ll be glad they did, too: the resulting images were well worth the wait! :)  This session featured four different animals: first, there’s Buster, an Australian shepherd mix, who’s the oldest & biggest of the bunch. He’s a consistently happy guy, maybe a bit slower than his siblings, but a very handsome boy! I also met Fae, a corgi mix with a permanent smile on her face! This girl is full of life and I loved photographing her happy spirit! Next is Leyland, a black & white long-haired cat. He only has one eye, but that’s okay – he gets around just fine. (And he even came with us to the studio – pretty impressive, for a cat!) Last but certainly not least is Nyx, a new puppy that just joined the family! I met her literally just a few days after her parents adopted her, and with the delay in getting together for the second half of our session, I feel like I’ve gotten to see her grow up a little, haha! So fun!

This is Buster and his mom, Patrisha. They love each other – as you can tell.

And this is Leyland! I love his little pink nose & ears.

We visited their house, where Fae did her best impression of a teddy bear…

And finally, we hit the beach! You should have seen Buster light up & run around the coastline!

Nyx, on the other hand, wasn’t so sure. (This was actually her very first trip to the beach!) She preferred to stay within the safety of mom’s feet… just in case.

Patrisha & Scott, thank you, again, for being so willing to wait for the best lighting conditions. I know for sure that it paid off! :)  I’m excited to see you both again soon!

Balboa Park Dog Photo Session: Cooper & Sophie!

Saturday, April 4th, 2015

I shared a lovely Balboa Park dog photography session with two happy pups recently! I’m so happy to introduce you to Cooper & Sophie, a heeler mix & chihuahua! These dogs are seriously the best friends – their favorite thing to do is run around and chase each other. And trust me, it’s adorable to watch! Sophie, the chihuahua, is much faster than her bigger & older brother, so she runs in circles and figure eights around him, speeding off in new directions every other second – while he either chases after her or waits for her to come back around to the same spot! They have such a cute relationship; even when we went to the beach later in the afternoon, they really just wanted to play with each other. Like I said – best friends. (Okay, Cooper may have tried herding another dog or two around the beach… But he always came back to Sophie!)

This is little miss Sophie! I loved photographing her amongst the architecture & flowers at Balboa Park.       balboa park dog

I can’t get enough of this portrait of both dogs together! Don’t you love their matching pointy ears? :)         balboa park dogs

And then we headed to Cooper’s happy place – the beach. He loves it here – and whether it happens to be Coronado, Fiesta Island, Ocean Beach, Del Mar, it doesn’t matter. He’s just happy to be in the water & sand!coronado dog beach

Dee & Andrew, I had a great time with all four of you! I’m excited to show you the rest of our photos very soon!

Photo Session with 5 Yorkies in Del Mar, CA

Friday, March 27th, 2015

Are you ready for an extra-large sneak peek?? I’m excited to share this session with you, because it’s not every day that I get to share a session with five dogs at once! So I was thrilled to meet these yorkies in Del Mar, and we had a wonderful time around the town together! We visited a local park, their mom’s condo, and we finished our session at the beach… it was so much fun! And each of these dogs has their own, completely distinct personality… it was really interesting to get to know them and see their differences in the time we spent together. I really love getting to know my clients and their pets – whether they have one pet or five! :)

This is Diva! She’s the mother of the group – literally! And she feels completely comfortable exercising her matriarchal authority; she was rarely rattled as her puppies ran around, barking at things & generally being silly… Diva preferred to sit back & watch as the chaos went on around her. Such a calm, regal dog!

This is one of her sons, Sparky! He’s a big guy – much bigger than Diva – and even though he’s deaf, he’s a total sweetheart. Just look at those eyes!

And here’s Rebel! He loooves to run around, as do most of the dogs… but true to his name, we’d often find him wandering around somewhere all by himself! But he’s really well-trained, so when we called him, he’d come running back, just like this!

This little lady is Liberty! Here’s a rare photo in which she’s not jumping up at my feet, begging for the treats in my hand, haha – trust me, she takes “food motivated” to a whole new level! (But really – for that face – could you resist?!)

And last but certainly not least is Rocky, getting comfortable here on the bed, with his signature one-ear-up pose. And I’ll be totally honest: the way his right ear is always up and his left ear always flops down was clutch in helping my recognize him at a moment’s glance amongst his siblings! :)

And then… we went SURFING!!!

Okay, we didn’t actually catch any waves, but I just love how these dogs look like they’re ready to hang ten! (or twenty!)

Thanks for a fun & memorable session, Laura! And thank you for training your dogs so well – these pups were so enjoyable to work with! :)

Mission Bay Pet Photography Session with Karma & Kody!

Tuesday, March 10th, 2015

I shared a super-fun Mission Bay pet photography session with Karma & Kody recently! And I’ll be honest, I knew action photos would be a huge focus of our session as soon as I met these pups: they’re bursting with energy! (In a good way, of course!) Kody is a 4-year-old Aussie, and Karma is a pit bull that’s a few years older but just as quick on her feet. These dogs love wrestling, playing, and running around on a daily – really, hourly – basis, and they’re best friends, so it’s adorable to see them have a good time together. I loved photographing their smiling faces as they romped around Mission Bay Park and Fiesta Island! And what’s even more fun: these dogs are friends with Bailey the rottweiler! I LOVE working with referral clients, so this session was especially fun for me! :)

This is Kody! We started out our session by running around quite a bit, and he was happy to oblige!

And this is his gorgeous sister, Karma! Would you look at those eyes!

Both dogs love the water, so we headed across the bay for a bit of beach time…

… where Karma showed me her backflip! This is one athletic dog! And this image is just one of several favorites I’m finding as I scroll through the photos I took in quick succession, as she turned Fiesta Island into her aerial playground…

Jeremy & Joanne, thank you for an action-packed afternoon! I can’t wait to show you the rest of our photos soon! :)

Tourmaline Beach Photo Session with Marina the Husky/Pit Bull Mix

Monday, February 9th, 2015

I met Marina & her parents at Tourmaline Beach for her photo session recently, and I learned very quickly that Marina loves the beach! Luckily, her family lives a short walking distance from the coast, so this is their favorite beach to visit together after work & on the weekends. Marina was so excited to be there, tugging on her leash and dashing from side to side as soon as we hit the sand – you’d have thought it was her first time there, but nope, she’s a regular! Haha! Don’t you love that contagious canine excitement?

Marina is a husky/pit bull mix, which means she has a LOT of energy. And boy did she let it out – every time she fetched the tennis ball, she’d sprint off & take it for a big, winding “victory lap” all around the beach! It was so cute – she paraded the ball around, as if to say “hey everyone, look what I got!” She’s a total sweetheart, and wanted to play with every dog that walked by, too. I absolutely loved capturing her spirited action on the beach – she definitely kept my shutter finger busy! :)

Here she is, happy as a clam to be at the beach again. Look at those eyes!

Sometimes (rarely) Marina likes to slow down and enjoy the view. (Only for a minute, and then she’s off again!)

Her face is so beautiful… isn’t she a unique dog?

Okay, okay, one more photo… I caught this blooper as she was shaking off from one of her many laps around the beach!

Sarah & Steve, thank you so much for introducing me to your gorgeous girl! And now, I have plenty of action photos to sort through… :)
