Destination Pet Photography

Friday, April 26th, 2013

I have a fabulous client named Deb who has two dogs, a poodle and a cocker spaniel. We’ve had a couple of sessions at a pretty park near Pensacola, but Deb had the inspired idea to do something much more meaningful for her latest session: instead of sticking around town, we visited her lakeside condo at Lake Martin, Alabama! This is a place that’s special to her; it’s her retreat from when life gets too crazy in Pensacola. I absolutely LOVE the idea of taking portraits in a special place with special people/dogs. It’s the perfect combination. With that much that’s valuable to you in one photo, what’s not to love? I’m available for travel & destination sessions wherever would be perfect for you.

Here are a few photos from our time there – we brought Bailey!

Last but not least, my personal favorite! WHAT a sunset!! This photo will be on a new sample metal print very soon…

If you’d like a travel/destination session in a special place, just fill out the contact form on my website, and I’ll be in touch. I’d be thrilled to visit a place that’s valuable to you.

Destination Pet Photography: Two Dogs at beautiful Lake Martin, Alabama

Wednesday, April 17th, 2013

I know I JUST made a blog post about how much I love working with repeat clients… but it looks like I get to be repetitive this week! (Yay! haha!)

I first met Lola and Sprockett (“Poodle Perfection”) almost two years ago, but unfortunately, Sprockett could not join us for any further sessions. He passed away a few months later, and his mom Deb was (understandably) crushed. He was a GREAT dog and is still sorely missed.

But the new addition to the family wasted no time making himself at home! Barkley is a miniature poodle (just like Sprockett was) and has a BIG attitude! He helps Lola develop trust in other people, and while her unfortunate upbringing will never let her become close with anyone except her mom, she loves having Barkley around. In return, she eats whatever food he leaves unguarded. (ha!)

Deb, their mom, has told me about her condo on Lake Martin in Alabama several times… so I was THRILLED when she decided to have a session there!! She LOVES her condo (and I can see why), and I think it makes perfect sense to have portraits in a place with such great sentimental value. I loved the concept almost as much as I loved actually being there… it was GORGEOUS! I’ll make a blog post with a few sunrise/sunset images soon, but with no further ado, session photos!

This is Lola and Barkley.

Could we possibly have had more perfect weather? Nope! Despite a cloudy morning, the sun came out to play!

Deb – I can’t thank you enough for such an enjoyable opportunity. You know I loved spending time with you & your pups… now if we could just do something about that wolverine… :)

A Birthday Present for Myself!

Monday, September 3rd, 2012

Woohoo! Today is my birthday!  :)

And I have a present I’d like to give myself. It’s a pretty simple one, but I need the help of someone in the Pensacola area: I want to photograph a Bernese mountain dog. Yes, that’s the gift I want! I’ve photographed dozens of different dog breeds (and sometimes I think I could only photograph golden retrievers and still stay in business…) but I’m fascinated with meeting new breeds, and I’ve always secretly wanted to work with a Bernese mountain dog. They’re at the top of my “wish list”! They’re beautiful, relatively uncommon, and they just seem like really great dogs.

Here’s a screen shot of Wikipedia’s Bernese mountain dog entry… isn’t that a gorgeous dog?

So if someone you know has a Bernese mountain dog, please pass on my information or this blog post! I’m happy to cover their session fee – so really, I suppose it’s a gift for both of us!

Bonus points if you have a PUPPY! My Google image search revealed all kinds of cuteness.

Okay, that’s it for today! Hope you’re having a wonderful Labor Day too! :)

Jax, Pete & Duncan ~ {Pensacola Pet Photography by Allison Shamrell}

Tuesday, December 13th, 2011

These three delightful Yorkie and Silky terrier boys came to visit me in Pensacola all the way from Brewton, Alabama with their parents this weekend! And while I was nervous about telling them all apart, once I met them, I knew it wouldn’t be hard. Let me introduce you!

We can start with the middle brother – just because I feel like mixing it up. This is Pete, who’s 5 years old and a ball of energy!

This is Duncan, the newest addition to the family: he’s only 7 months old, weighs 4 pounds, and is pretty much scared of everything.

Last but not least, Jax, the sage (and only slightly ornery) old man at 13.

After relaxing at the park, we went somewhere a little more scenic…

Some of us jumped in the water. No names mentioned.

I probably yammered their parents’ ears off by going on about the light at that time of day… well, this is why!

But where I think these boys really shined was the studio. Just look at that pose by the 7-month-old!

If this photo had a sound effect, it would be “whoosh”

Even old man Jax brought out his playful side!

What a beautiful trio.

Bye bye boys!

Something tells me this gallery is going to be, well, not Yorkie-sized, but Great Dane-sized! But you’ll have to wait until the new year to see!

Sneak Peek: Farley & Dougal ~ {Pensacola Pet Photography by Allison Shamrell}

Monday, August 29th, 2011

I had a great time photographing brother-and-sister duo Farley and Dougal on Saturday! But I was kind of surprised that I was able to meet them at all: you see, there were several forces at work in the universe trying to stop this session from happening.

  1. Farley (the beautiful shepherd mix) and Dougal (the cream-colored terrier mix) live in Atlanta, Georgia. Very far away from Pensacola.
  2. Their mom and dad, Carey & Scott, only had about 24 hours’ notice that they were able to visit the Pensacola area – and they were staying in Gulf Shores, AL, not even Pensacola!
  3. I had an event scheduled for all-day Saturday. (It was cancelled at the last minute!)
  4. The Great Insect Infestation of 2011. Seriously – Bay Bluffs Park has never been so buggy. And the flies and ants followed us to Seville Park, too!
  5. A bunch of washed-up jellyfish freakishly appeared on the beach. I would blame that on Hurricane Irene if I could, but honestly I have no idea why they were all there. It was a little scary! I think they were trying to stop us too… although why the jellyfish population is angry at me, I have no idea.

But despite all the obstacles, we had a wonderful afternoon! Carey + Scott, I have a feeling your gallery is going to be supersized. Enjoy your Sneak Peek!

I’m pretty sure Farley is thinking, “come on lady, I want that treat!”

I had to leave you with one image of Farley’s incredible tongue! She is a goofball :)
