Kai is a gorgeous (and slightly miniature) pit bull from New Orleans, Lousiana! I was so flattered that her mom, Andrea, wanted to drive out to Pensacola to invest in images of her sweet little dog.

I know some people have reservations about the pit bull breed. Yes, they’re often the breed of choice for the scum of the earth that choose to fight dogs. But pigeonholing an entire breed to the bad decisions of a few people is akin to racism; it’s just not fair or true, and these beautiful creatures suffer for it. I’ve never met a truly vicious pit bull – the stereotype is much more vicious. It keeps families and their pit bulls out of apartments, neighborhoods and even whole cities. If you’ve had a bad experience with a pit bull, it’s only because they’ve been subjected to a horrible past – just as could happen to a golden retriever, labrador or jack russell terrier. I can’t express how strongly I feel about this: a dog’s behavior is determined by his past and current surroundings, NOT his breed. But I suppose I should get off my soapbox. Maybe I’ll blog about this in the future… in any case, Kai is a sweetheart, and I was so excited to have this session with her! Without further ado, here are the photos!

Andrea wanted plenty of images of Kai AND herself – it was so great!! I love capturing the human-animal bond, and all too often (in my opinion) my clients are, well, camera-shy. (Hey, I can relate – why do you think my job involves staying BEHIND the camera?) So this is one of many photos with both lovely ladies. So excited about these!

We also visited the park for a little game of fetch…

 And then cooled off at the beach! Let me tell you what, Kai poses like a PRO.
