About

FAQ

1.  My dog is crazy. Can you still photograph him/her?

Absolutely! I’ve worked with many different types of “crazy” pets before. Most of them simply require more session time, such as high-energy dogs. I’ve also developed a process for working with extremely shy and skittish dogs, which ensures that they stay comfortable and we still get some beautiful images. It helps that I have a nearly-limitless supply of patience (and treats)!

2.  Where do sessions take place?

Choosing a session location is one of the most important parts of the custom photography experience, since it determines the overall feel of the final product. I discuss this with each client during our personal Pre-Shoot Consultation. In general, I’m happy to come to your house if that’s where your pet is most comfortable, or if he/she doesn’t travel well.

3.  My house is too messy for a session!

Don’t be silly! I’ll be focusing on your pet, not the bits of clutter and dust in the corners of the room! As long as you’re not a contender for a future episode of Hoarders, I’d love to visit where you & your pet spend most of your time together. I’ll probably ask for the grand tour, so I can see where the best light occurs, and I think you’ll love having images that are so personal.

4.  Can I be in the photos too?

Oh, I thought you’d never ask! I really love capturing the unique relationship between pets and their people; I think the bond you have with your animal(s) is beautiful – and even a little bit magical. Even if you’re uncomfortable being in front of a camera, I’ll do my best to help you relax, and I promise we’ll have fun!

5.  I don’t have a dog – but will you photograph my cat/horse/lizard/bird?

Of course! I am a pet photographer, after all – I have experience with feline and equine photography and I’d be thrilled to work with you to capture whatever species you love! (Except velociraptors. I’ve seen Jurassic Park one too many times.)

6.  What kind of equipment do you use, and what experience do you have?

Excellent question. I shoot digital – it allows me to keep costs down and deliver a variety of final products. I use Canon equipment, and my workhorse lens is my L-series 24-70 f/2.8 IS, for all you techies! My photography background (before I started shooting pets) is in action sports photography, and I think that experience with fast-moving subjects prepared me well for the crazy antics of dogs! If you’re a Notre Dame fan, I’d be happy to show you my past work. If you’re a USC fan, you should know that your session will cost double.

7.  What happens after our session?

You get to sit back and relax! My work has just begun, however – I’ll be busy posting a Sneak Peek for you on my blog, backing up and archiving your images so they’ll be safe for years to come, picking out the very best photos with wagging tails and bright eyes, and digitally editing those images to ensure they look simply stunning. Once I’m done with this process, which takes about 1-2 weeks, we’ll get together for our Ordering Session. That’s when you get to see all your images, and see and touch my innovative products in person, if you haven’t already. Once you pick out your favorites, I’ll design any books or storyboards you’ve ordered, optimize your images for the mediums you’ve chosen (like canvas), send your selections to my professional printing labs. At that point the FedEx guy becomes your best friend!

8.  Will my pet have a huge ego after our session?

Probably. He might start bragging to the neighborhood dogs and prancing around your house, looking for cameras in front of which to pose. It’s a common side-effect.
