A Boxer on the Beach: Jamocha

Wednesday, February 20th, 2013

This happened to be a session that we had to postpone twice, unfortunately – sometimes the weather is just NOT on my side! But Pensacola was pretty foggy in the morning last week, so I promised Jamocha’s parents that waiting for a clear day would be worth the wait… and boy, was it worth it! We simply couldn’t have asked for a more gorgeous morning! You might already be familiar with this sweet boxer girl if you follow the Facebook page, but if not, let me introduce you!

Her name is Jamocha May, after the delicious Arby’s drink! How cute is that? She’s a gorgeous & energetic young boxer.

A boxer dog runs along beautiful Pensacola Beach, and a close-up of her eye.

Don’t let her great posing skills fool you – it was actually a bit tricky to get Jamocha to lay or sit anywhere on the beach, since she appeared to be scared of the washed-up, dried seaweed laying around! Haha – she practically danced around it for our whole session! What a goofball.

Joy & Matt, thank you so much for being so patient! I can’t wait to get together again – especially because this time the weather won’t matter! Yay! :)

Photo Session Combination: Two Doxies & a Boxer!

Monday, February 18th, 2013

I was so thrilled to meet all three of these dogs – mostly because I already know one of their favorite playmates! Daly the lab/terrier mix lives just down the street from Tank the boxer, and both dogs’ parents work with the parents of Jack and Luke, two little doxies. Since all the people and dogs are good friends, we simply decided to combine both of their individual sessions into one big afternoon! Photographing them all was so fun – all three dogs have totally distinct personalities, and I think that comes through even in the small amount of images I’ve had the chance to look through so far. Their parents are all wonderful people, and super-hardworking realtors, so we were lucky to squeeze this session into their busy schedules on a day when the weather was downright fabulous! A bit cold, as it has been lately, but gorgeous for the photos!  :)

This is Tank the boxer. He loves relaxing in bed with his mom… look at those sweet eyes!

A beautiful boxer dog rests on a bed, looking out the window.

Tank was also a big fan of the ball I brought to our session! (when Jack would let him have it…)

Luke is on the left, and Jack is on the right. Don’t they look comfortable & cute?

Two dachshunds are sandwiched in between their owners on the couch.

I love this image – this was a break-out-of-the-pose-with-our-parents-and-get-some-of-the-photographer’s-treats moment!

Cherry, Mark & Luke – thank you all so much for a great afternoon on Saturday! I can’t wait to show you the rest of our images!

Ft. Walton Beach Min Pin & Chihuahua Photography: Frankie, Lilli & Emmie

Monday, February 11th, 2013

This was my first session with out-of-town visitors in 2013! I love the excitement of doing sessions with people visiting for only a brief time; either they come to town primarily for their session or are fitting it in with all their other vacation plans, and either way, it’s a bit of a whirlwind! But even though so much of what I do revolves around the pets & owners living nearby (visiting them before the session to meet their dogs, showing clients their photos in person, etc.) I’m more than happy to make sure my out-of-town clients still get the great experience that all my clients are accustomed to. And this Saturday was no exception! My clients actually used to live in Ft. Walton Beach, so we headed to a couple of pretty places that were special to them. I’m so excited about this session – I have a feeling their gallery is going to be huge! For now, here are just a few photos of their adorable little pack.

This is Emmie, a chihuahua-min pin mix. She’s the baby of the family – literally!

… and here are Emmie’s parents! Frankie is the chihuahua on the left and Lilli is the min pin on the right. I love how Emmie looks like mom, but got just a bit of dad’s soft peachy coloring!

Here are all three pups – in a rare moment when no one was running/jumping/exploring! :)

Kassandra & Lyle, thank you so much for a wonderful afternoon! I’ll be in touch soon with your gallery info!

A Slightly Crazy Session: Louie, Bitsy, Reese & Blackie

Monday, February 4th, 2013

This was… ahem… an eventful session! Don’t get me wrong – it was lots of fun, the dogs were total sweethearts, and their parents are wonderful people! – but a few road bumps near the beginning of our session made for slightly slow-going at first. In fact, the issues were pretty unpredictable, and Cheri & Jim (the dogs’ parents) were nice enough to send me an email after the session which read:

Hi Allison! We figured out that you would probably add a few questions to your questionnaire after today:

1. Does your dog have any type of training at all?  Any? Obedience? Potty? Leash? Anything?

2. Is your dog likely to pee/poop/vomit in my studio?

3. Is there any chance that all of your dogs will be able to pull out of their collars at once on a busy street in downtown Pensacola?

4. Will your dogs ever look at a camera, for any reason?

5. If not, do you mind having hundreds of photos of your dogs asses?

Haha! I love it when my clients have a sense of humor! Yes, our session was chaotic, the dogs’ strong suit was not obedience, and we used up our fair share of paper towels. But Cheri & Jim, I think you’ll be in for a surprise when you see the photos we still (somehow) managed to get!

This is Louie, in the foreground. He’s a rescue from a puppy mill, and has the notch in his ear to prove it, poor thing. But with Cheri & Jim, he’s learning how to be a dog and not just a breeding machine. Thank goodness they saved him – look at that sweet face!

A dachshund looks at the camera for a photo in front of an old historic doorfront.

This is Bitsy, an old chihuahua whom Cheri & Jim found on the streets. Her cataract remains, but she used to be in much worse shape: thoroughly flea-ridden and diseased. They nursed her back to health and now she’s a happy (if slow-moving) member of their family!

A chihuahua with a cataract in her eye poses for a photo in the studio.

Here’s Reese, a cute girl who seriously knew how to work the camera! Her back legs don’t work so well, but she tries not to let that slow her down at all – she is such a sweetheart, and a kisser too!

Last but certainly not least is Blackie, the doxie-beagle mix. Can you believe that he used to have a wheelchair for his back legs? We brought him to the beach, and suddenly he was zooming around everywhere! The boy loves the sand, I guess!

A doxie dog runs across the sand, ears flying.

Cheri & Jim’s house has been dubbed The Isle of Misfit Toys, because each of their dogs comes from unfortunate circumstances, and some still bear the scars of their past lives. But together, they make an incredibly beautiful family, inside & out. Thank you so much for allowing me to meet your pack – and Happy Birthday, Jim! :) I can’t wait to see you both again soon!

Cute Pug Photography: Mr. Big!

Thursday, January 31st, 2013

You read the title right – this dog’s name is Mr. Big! I dare you to say his name without adding an exclamation mark as you say it – even if you just think it in your head! How cute is he?!

This was a truly delightful session – we started at Mr. Big’s condo on Pensacola Beach, headed up to Plaza Ferdinand for a few park photos, and then finished up at my studio! He was a great little subject, and veryveryvery treat-motivated. And as Mr. Big (!) slowly started to have less focus and energy, we decided that he was probably tuckered out and ready for a post-session nap… Sure enough, his mom texted me less than 5 minutes after driving away – he fell asleep in the car on the way home! Ha!

Enjoy these photos of the handsome little man – and yes, the constant state of hanging-out-tongue is totally normal!  :)

I love this photo so much, I posted it to the Facebook page, too!

Thanks again for a wonderful session, Mr. Big!  Laurie & Jeff, it was absolutely wonderful to photograph your 4-legged son. Can’t wait to see all three of you again soon!
